THE FIRST GEM – CAIRO
A GOLDMINE OF HISTORY AND A BUSTLING METROPOLIS
One wonder Cairo – the capital of Egypt has, that no other city in the world has – is the Great Pyramid of Giza. Built 4400 years ago, this Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world before the Eiffel Tower was constructed. Then there is the Egyptian Museum which has nine exquisitely preserved mummies on display. The choreographed chaos of the famous Khan el-Khalili bazaar, and its magical skyline at night (in the picture above) are other attractions.
THE SECOND GEM – ALEXANDRIA
ALLURING ALEXANDRIA
Once you’ve seen the must-seen Cairo, you can head towards the “The Pearl of the Mediterranean”, Alexandria. It is a 3 hours drive from Cairo – and has a European flavour to it. It hosts one of the most beautiful libraries in the world – the architectural wonder called Bibliotheca Alexandrina. There are also the 2000 year old Roman Amphitheater and the soul stirring ancient burial chambers called the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa . Alexandria is miniature Egypt: modern, but seeped in history. (Look at the picture above.)
THE THIRD GEM – ASWAN
ANCIENT ASWAN
Aswan is the third can’t-miss place in Egypt. You can get there through an overnight sleeper train from Cairo or by flight. The Elephantine island here has 2 Nubian villages where you can interact with traditional villagers. You can have a romantic Felucca ( the boat you can see in the picture) trip around the island. The Aswan High Dam is one of the largest in the world – so immense in scale that it is a tourist attraction in itself. Here is a picture of the magnificent Archangel Michael’s Coptic Orthodox Church in Aswan:
THE FOURTH GEM – ABU SIMBEL
AWESOME ABU SIMBEL
Around 4 hours from Aswan is another must-see attraction: the huge rock temples of Abu Simbel. With 10 storey high statues (look at the picture) of a Pharoah king carved out of stone to flaunt, the temples are one of the most visited tourist attractions of Egypt. These temples were moved rock by rock to their current position from the spot they were built at to avoid their getting submerged in Lake Nasser. They were reassembled, in the exact same relationship to each other and the sun, and covered with an artificial mountain. Revel in the glory of these temples.
THE FIFTH GEM – LUXOR
LUXURIOUS LUXOR
Visiting Egypt without visiting Luxor is unthinkable. So many tombs and temples does this city contain that it is referred to as “The World’s Largest Open Air Museum.” Luxor – which is also called “The City of Palaces”, has 63 fascinating tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the architectural marvel – Hatshepsut Temple, and the Luxor Temple. Here is a picture taken inside the thousands of years old Luxor Temple:
THE SIXTH GEM – HURGHADA

HOT ‘N’ HAPPENING HURGHADA
When you’ve had enough of history, you can head towards Hurghada, one of the foremost tourist resorts on the Red Sea Coast. It is at 4 hours driving distance from Luxor. Go windsurfing, sailing, deep sea fishing, swimming, snorkelling and visit the beautiful Giftun Island. And to top it, there are camel and quad biking safaris too! Hurghada is an ideal spot for the beach lover.
THE SEVENTH GEM – SHARM EL-SHEIKH
SENSATIONAL SHARM EL SHEIKH
The second last of the gems sparkles as brightly as any other. A 50 minutes flight from Luxor is this other beach resort town: Sharm el-Sheikh. Set off from the camel station on a tranquil trek across the hauntingly beautiful Egyptian desert.Visit a Bedouin camp where you can sit around the fire and you will be served a traditional dinner including Kofta and freshly baked Bedouin bread. Conclude the evening with tea, singing and dancing. Sharm el Sheikh is also heaven for beach lovers and people who love night life. Here’s a picture of Namma Bay a street in ‘THE PARTY TOWN’ that’s famous for its night life and club culture.:
THE EIGHTH GEM – SINAI
SACRED SINAI
The last gem of Egypt is Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai is sacred: it is said that Moses received the 10 Commandments on its peak. Climbing up and watching the sun set from this holy place is beautiful. Have a look:
Other holy places nearby are the Monastery of St. Catherine and the Burning Bush. It is said that all plants near the burning bush caught fire once – but the burning bush remained unscathed. Visit this place to experience a different side of Egypt.
Now that you know about all these places, have a look at our interesting packages covering them extensively! And in case you want to discuss anything, .
